Simple Faith-One Thing

Through media and other social pressures, our nation has become one of tantalizing and convenient fast food, but also one so defined by image that it seems every other person is on a diet. Although the desire to shed a few pounds and exercise honors God and the life and body He has given all of us, we have another responsibility, which is to shed some excess weight spiritually.
How many of us have carried excess “baggage” in our hearts and on our minds for so long, that we aren’t even aware of how it affects who we have become and how we interact with others?
As difficult as it is to admit to a weight or health issue and to take the step to sign up for a gym membership, the most difficult part is keeping consistent—getting the weight off and keeping it off!
In Mark 10: 21-22 Jesus responded to a man who had appealed to him regarding his good intentions; he had always followed the commandments, and so the man felt that by doing so, it was good enough to guarantee his entrance into Heaven: “21 Jesus looked him hard in the eye – and loved him! He said, “There’s one thing left: Go sell whatever you own and give it to the poor. All your wealth will then be heavenly wealth. And come follow me.” 22 The man’s face clouded over. This was the last thing he expected to hear, and he walked off with a heavy heart. He was holding on tight to a lot of things, and not about to let go.”
Admittance of what we carry around on our hearts and cannot let go of, is what weighs us down from truly allowing God to do His work in our lives. It is also one of the most difficult things to do. We all have “extra weight” that is affecting our interactions and self-perceptions in the workplace, in relationships, and in our family life. Take the first step and keep consistent! —Pray to God in a prayer of admittance. Then, pray a prayer of redemption and thankfulness.—You will feel the weight lifted as He embraces you, loves you, and lifts your burdens.
God is With You.
